Abstract
Peripartum cardiomyopathy is a rare cardiac disorder which develops in the last month of pregnancy or within 5 months after delivery, and is associated with a high rate of maternal mortality. Peripartum cardiomyopathy is recognized as a distinct entity, different from preexisting cardiomyopathy that is worsened during pregnancy. Its etiology is unknown, although several theories have been reported about its pathogenesis. The clinical symptoms are similar to other forms of congestive heart failure. Echocardiography is essential for the diagnosis, as well as the early diagnosis and treatment.
